Chilly-O makes Japanese Street Culture Mag… Woofin’

For the past three years, Chilly-O Clothing has consistently been selected for Woofin’ Japanese Street Culture magazine. What ever Woofin’ Mag sees in us, we will take it! Hopefully by now, the people know our admiration and respect for Japanese Street Fashion. Japanese Street Fashion has a very high regard for core urban fashion and the visual expression is on another level. Thank You again, Woofin’ Magazine for always noticing our style and Brandy Yuka for sending us the imagery!

This summer Chilly-O Clothing feels that its imperative to enmesh with a broader artistic community and you were nominated to participate in our Summer Indy Artist Campaign, let the people know who you are and where you’re from?

I am Brandon Sadler, an artist and illustrator born and raised here in Atlanta.

I’ve seen you around in many of the venues through Atlanta’s progressive art scene and I actually got to see you live at the Art Battle, you had a disposition of mystery over your persona, where does that come from?

Mystery? Well, I guess a part of that mystique came from my lack of trash-talking ability… I went there to battle! The other part, I can attribute to my style as a person and an artist. I’m typically pretty “dark” in so many words, Ya know!

Dark?

Yeah, I said that in “so many words” because that’s what most people say when they speak about my imagery. I am fascinated with the balance between the beautiful and the grotesque, both visually and conceptually. Thinking back, I never was really good at doing “cute” or “poppy” stuff. So, when people respond to what I’m putting out, what you will see on this piece is what usually comes out.

Explain the direction of our collaboration?

I think this is a chance for both of us to embrace something new while maintaining our established styles. Thus far, I think we’ve been successful in bringing content, contemporary culture, and art to the forefront of fashion… Our direction is upward.

Of course, Chilly-O Clothing generally has an innate or internal message on our tees, what is that hidden message behind the Bradon Sadler collaboration and what were your challenges or inspirations in creating this piece that speaks to the world?

I think you and I were responding to a situation that touches both men and women everywhere. This design is addressing the mistreatment of people in relationships, where one party is out for personal satisfaction and the other gets chewed up. People sometimes are like chewing gum, when the flavor is gone, spit ‘em out and grab another “piece”. The challenge for me stems back to what we were talking about earlier; my aesthetic being about the beautiful and grotesque. I had to consider our audience for sure and tone my shit down a bit, Ya know!

What art style are you most confident in and what art style would you like to learn to enhance your current skill set?

I would say line and detail are my ladies, we’re tight. I would like to take my understanding of detail and simplify that abstract and still be able to get the information across to the viewer. Be closer to the Japanese ideal of , “less is more.”

Squares or Circles?

Circles

Any big projects or life changing events coming up soon for you?

Yeah! I can’t necessarily speak on anything specifically because the papers are being filed. However, nobody will be left out of the loop. You might have to be patient for a second though.

Sounds like Big Things to me… What did you think about SAW VI?

Didn’t see it. Although, I’m not squeamish in the least, I have no interest in paying to see the excessive depiction of human insides in detail. What happened to the genius? It’s not even scary; I thought that was the point? No tact here.

Correct… Describe your fashion sensibilities, the things you would like to see more of and styles that we can do without?

My style is simple, bold and graphic. I like nice plain jeans with a dope tee no one has or wish they had. I do well in a tie too, but I’ll hold that down. I like seeing people in clothes that reflect them. Nothing forced or contrived. Comfortable like your fit was made for you and know one else succumbing to the whims of a collective trend. What the entire WORLD could do without…rhymes with “Dead Party” ..Oh and the nerd look, people with glasses wish they didn’t have to wear ‘em, why people wearing fake ones? The wheelchair look is gon’ come out next?

Any interest in delving into street art as an extended form of expression?

I’m interested in getting back out there. I miss that side of me.

What’s your escape plan when bang out art on the streets, or do you just stick to remote territories?

Usually remote, chill spots… But I used to bang tags on my bike easy to keep it moving. I think when I do get back to it; I’m going to mess with the wheat paste game. I dig that hard, it’s still like writing though, but to connect all my styles I think that would be the motion.

Are you a Ninja?

Samurai

What was your last adventure?

Tried to go to White Castle the other day, took me 2 days.

Describe the art scene in Atlanta in 3 words?

Limited. Hidden. Alive.

Why did the chicken cross the road?

Because it was lunchtime on Boulevard.

Now that you put your art out there again, what impact do you hope to have on the people?

I want people to think. Break things down visually. Draw conclusions. Get ideas, get inspired.

Any last words before we conclude?
